Channel your inner Madonna. This is the perfect waist cinched to wear OVER your clothing and on display if wished. Or you can wear it as it was intended. It is a longline waist cinched or corset or girdle, whatever you want to call it. It is 14 inches long down the front and 17 inches long down the back. The waist is 4 inches below the top. It has 6 bones. The two on the front are short to the waist only (so you can sit and bend easily). The two (one on either side) on the sides and two at the back are longer. It has a side opening of several concealed hook and eyes (back with soft brushed cotton) and a Lightning metal zip over the top. The front fabric is a floral bud brocade in the palest pink with two insets of elastic at the front thigh. The side panels are also elastic. Then there is a pale pink satin panel down the back. It is labelled Berlei, made in England and size 26. The size refers to the waist measurement at rest. I assume you are meant to be a bit bigger, maybe about a 28 and this cinches you in and smooths you out. The elastic is stretchy, but with firm control. The hips, 8 inches below the waist, is 32 at rest but can stretch to 36. Berlei began life in Australia in 1917 and opened in the UK in 1929. It is responsible for creating the first maternity bra and is still going to today. This is in very good condition, It may have had suspender clips at one point and these have been take off, It is being sold as is. In my mind, this makes this more flexible to wear as something aside from foundation wear. You could sew new ones on if wished. It seems to have all its original stretch. It looks clean and has been recently washed. The zip works well although some of the pink paint has worn off it. The seams seem intact. The bone on the right side seems bent at the waist. It is well contained so I cannot see the extent but it shouldn't affect wearability. All in all, it is a great piece of vintage lingerie.
